Dear Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the VII. European Ground Squirrel Meeting held in Budapest, Hungary on 3-5 October, 2018.

Our goal is to bring together scientists and practical conservationists from all over Europe working in various areas of European ground squirrel´s biology and conservation. The event gives possibility to present novel scientific results as well as conservation management experiences and practices related to this rodent species. You are invited to present and discuss about forefront studies and future perspectives, as well. The meeting also gives the opportunity to friendly meetings and fruitful talks. The organisers will strongly encourage an integrative approach, which will be guaranteed by a wide variety of topics (e.g. biogeography, ecology, behaviour, physiology, genetics and conservation).

The idea of this bi-annual event goes back to 2002, when a kick-off meeting in Madjarovo, Bulgaria was initiated by BirdLife (Stoycho Stoychev). Since 2006, it has been organised every two years, with the first EGSM in Felsőtárkány, Hungary, the second in Sv. Jan pod Skalou, Czech Republic, the third in Ordu, Turkey, the fourth in Kamień Śląski, Poland, the fifth in Rust, Austria and the sixth in Beograd, Serbia.

The meeting is being organised by the Fertő-Hanság National Park Directorate (within the frame of the RaptorspreyLIFE project entitled: Securing prey sources for endangered Falco cherrug and Aquila heliaca population in the Carpathian basin, No.: LIFE13 NAT/HU/000183). The venue of the meeting will be the Hungarian Natural History Museum, in Budapest.

The program of the VII. EGSM will be expanded by a two-day pre-meeting workshop on subterranean rodents, including blind mole rats, on 1-2 October which is supported by the Hungarian Natural History Museum. The workshop will be open for every participants of the EGSM.

Participation in both the ‘subterranean rodent workshop’ and the VII. EGSM are free from registration fee, while coffee breaks (tea, coffee, sandwich) and lunch will be provided; however, due to financial limitations, we cannot offer support for travel or accommodation.

For further information, (registration, abstract submission, social event, schedule, accommodation etc.) please, check here regularly.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

On behalf of the Organising Committee,
